Andrew Horvat is the principal attorney at Horvat Law. Prior to starting Horvat Law, Andrew supervised the litigation unit of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office that handled many of the county’s most challenging civil rights lawsuits. During this time, Andrew successfully represented numerous county and state officials, including elected office holders, judges, and administrative employees in some of the most publicized civil rights cases in the country.

Prior to his time with Cook County, Andrew worked for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office where he supervised one of the busiest civil rights units in the state. During his time with the Attorney General, Andrew successfully litigated numerous cases involving a wide assortment of civil rights claims, employment related actions, and lawsuits involving the rights of students, teachers, and school administrators. Trusted by the Office to handle some of its most difficult cases, Andrew was often relied upon to try jury trials in federal court and did so with outstanding results.

While Andrew’s unique experiences overseeing two of the largest civil rights units in the State cannot be overstated, his experience isn’t limited to government work. Prior to working for the Attorney General, Andrew worked at a nationally recognized civil litigation firm in Chicago. During this time, Andrew represented individuals, small businesses, and Fortune 500 companies in numerous civil rights claims, wrongful death actions, and various tort and personal injury cases. At the same time, Andrew also served as nationwide counsel for one of his international clients, supervising and personally litigating lawsuits in over twenty state and federal jurisdictions. Consistent with this career as a public servant, Andrew still found the time to voluntarily represent indigent clients free of charge.

Andrew started his career as a criminal prosecutor in Kane County, IL where he was able to sharpen his skills as a trial attorney. As a prosecutor, Andrew tried over 50 jury trials including multiple white-collar crimes and murder cases. Andrew’s decades of experience successfully trying cases to verdict continues to pay dividends for his clients today.

Andrew lives in the Village of Hinsdale in DuPage County with his wife and their young son. He is actively involved with several charitable organizations, including Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Wounded Warrior Project. When not assisting his clients, Andrew enjoys traveling with his family, teaching his son how to cook, friendly poker games, and fine scotch..
